Step 1: Collecting sand 🏖️
Decide in advance which bottle you ultimately want to seal. This could be a large wine bottle or a small spice jar. This will give you an idea of how much sand you will need. Take a small bucket with you on holiday and fill it with fine sand. You could also add some pretty shells to the bottle. PS: Please note that it may not be permitted to take sand and/or shells from your destination. In some countries/regions, this is prohibited! |
Step 2: Filling the bottle 🍾
Fill the glass bottle with the fine sand. You can use a funnel for this if necessary. Then put the cork on the bottle and check that it is secure. You can check this by holding the bottle upside down. Do this carefully, as you don't want the sand to fall out.
PS: The bottle in the photo has a diameter of 30mm and the cork is 15mm.

Step 3: Wax ready, let's pour!!
Heat sealing wax in a melting spoon over a wax seal oven. Once melted, you can choose to add a label to the bottle. You can attach it by tying a string around the neck of the bottle. Once the wax has melted, you can pour it onto the cork of the bottle. In the example, I used three wax beads so that the neck of the bottle is also covered with wax. |
Step 4: Stamp away 🎨Take a wax stamp and carefully place it on the cork. Leave it on the cork for at least 30 seconds so that the wax can set. Since the cork in the example is 15mm, I also used a wax stamp of this size. |

Step 5: Enjoy! 🤩Carefully remove the stamp and enjoy your beautifully sealed bottle! The dripping wax has now also attached the string from the label to the bottle. Create a whole collection of sand bottles from different destinations and capture your wonderful memories! |
